    Unquestionably one of the finest classic-style steakhouses in all of Las Vegas, Smith & Wollensky specializes in serving juicy, dry-aged beef complemented by an amazing wine list.  In addition to the steaks, it also serves a nice selection of seafood dishes and other dishes to please every palette.  Conveniently located at 3767 Las Vegas Boulevard, right across from the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino, the restaurant offers superb food in a number of well appointed dining rooms and an informal bistro featuring sidewalk patio dining.  The restaurant also hosts the famous “wine week” twice each year, and several monthly wine dinners during the warm weather months.   Vegas Wine News featured S & W as the restaurant of the edition in the January/February 2009 edition, so go to the “links” page of this site and check it out.  Call the restaurant at (702)862-4100 for more information or reservations.   Benefits to members of the site will include one bottle of the Napa Valley Smith and Wollensky house Bordeaux blend wine for two or more entrees purchased from the evening dinner menu.  The bottle is produced by noted winemaker Girard especially for S & W, and normally costs $85.00 at the restaurant.

    The iconic Las Vegas chef, bon vivant and wine connoisseur, hosts a radio show almost every Thursday evening from 7:00-8:00 in one of several restaurant venues around the area.   These interesting shows are live and broadcast to many stations around the country and the world. They feature wine served with food prepared the restaurants’ chefs, and advice from Les and his expert guest on both cooking, wine and pairing the two.  To make reservations for a show, go to les@leskincaid.com .  Normal cost for show entry is $20.00.  Les will grant VWN members a one-time free admittance into one show.  Members must first make a reservation for the show with Les, and bring their membership card with them to the event.

     Enjoy the Double Helix, an elegant, upscale wine shop and eatery right on the Las Vegas Strip.  Located in the Shoppes of the Palazzo, Double Helix not only offers a fine selection of wine in all price ranges, but their outside wine bar area serves up dishes prepared by gourmet chef Emeril Lagasse.  The bar sits in the major intersection of the thoroughfare for the mall’s shoppers, making it a convenient place for taking a break, meeting friends or people watching.  It’s bar features two televisions so customers can take in a sporting event while they wait for friends or spouses to complete their shopping.  The shop hosts wine tastings for only $5.00 on most Friday evenings between 5:00-7:00 p.m.   Vegas Wine News had Double Helix as its featured retailer in the January/February 2009 edition.  Contact the store by calling 702-735-9463, or by checking out their website at www.doublehelixwine.com .  Double Helix will provide a complementary bottle of Pinot Noir or Pinot Grigio, as selected by the staff, to any Vegas Wine News member who purchases wine in excess of $50.00

    Head chef Joachim Splichal’s masterpiece restaurant Pinot Brasserie in the Venetian Hotel & Casino features several different and intriguing dining areas, from the formal to the sidewalk ambience of a French cafe’, a diversified menu blending French style cooking with California influences.  Executive chef Eric Lhuillier prepares a delicious selection of steaks, seafoods and assorted other entrees, and a plethora of tasty side dishes, such as the excellent onion soup and sauteed mushrooms, to complement any meal.  The restaurant welcomes wine lovers with an extensive wine list and a policy unique to any other restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip; no corkage fee for carry-in bottles of wine.  Pinot Brasserie offers members a twenty-five percent (25%) discount off any bottles of wines ordered from the wine list when members purchase at least two entrees during dinner.  Discounts may not be combined with any other specials the restaurant has on wine on the evening of purchase.  Call the restaurant for reservations at  (702)414-8888.

    Whatever you seek in the world of libations, Khoury’s Fine Wine & Spirits Khoury’s most likely stocks what you need.  The stores specialize in wine, and Khoury’s has a vast selection of wines from all over the globe in all price ranges.  The customer can find some great wines from some of California’s boutique wineries; small producers not usually found in the Las Vegas area.  Check out the wine locker where the stores carry the premium wines. Khoury’s has two convenient locations at 9915 S. Eastern Avenue, Henderson (702)435-9463 and 7150 S. Durango, Las Vegas (702)453-9463.  It hosts free wine tastings on Wednesdays from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Durango store, and on Thursdays at the same time at the Henderson store.  Khoury’s will offer the following discounts to members:  a fifteen percent discount on any twelve bottles of wines purchased (a mixed case), or ten percent discount on any six bottles of wine purchased.  Purchases must be made in the same sale and on the same day.  As a further one-time only sale benefit, Khoury’s will offer a ten percent (10%) discount on a purchase of wine from the wine locker in either store. 

    A paradigm of Las Vegas charities, New Vista Community is committed to providing the intellectually challenged of all ages with equal opportunities and support so that they may experience life to the fullest.  It supports programs designed to help such disabled adults and children to live a self determined life while being an active part of our community.  NVC hosts its “Wine Walks” events to raise funds for this worthy cause.  The events take place throughout the spring and fall, at two different locations; the Boca Fashion Village or the Town Square Mall.  Tasting stations pour 20 different wines, from 7:00-10:00 p.m.  Cost, $30.00 per person or $50.00 per couple.  Proceeds of the event goes to charity. Rock’n Roll Wine events,,,

    Rock’n Roll Wine combines live music and wine tasting at some of Las Vegas’ most compelling nightclub venues.  The events usually take place once a month, and some of the clubs hosting past events include Mix atop the Hotel of Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Risque at the Paris Hotel & Casino, Pure at Caesar’s Palace, and Tao at the Venetian, to name just a few.  The next event is set for the Foundation Room at the Mandalay Bay.  At most of these events, Rock’n Roll Wine has a premium area featuring premium wines and a Reidel tasting glass.  Admittance to this area normally costs an additional $10.00.  Vegas Wine News members will receive a free upgrade to this premium area.  Check with Rock’n Roll Wine for details at  (702)240-3066.  This site posts all upcoming Rock’n Roll Wines events.

TERMS OF USE


All persons must be at least 21 years of age to become a Member.  Upon joining, the Member will receive via U.S. Mail, the original membership card.  The Member must present this card together with a government issued photo I.D. card, such as a driver’s license or passport.  Presentation of both the membership card and I.D. will entitle the Member to the benefit described at the participating retail establishment.

    Located at 8615 West Sahara, Lucio Ristorante features traditional Italian cooking and chic ambience.  Chef Giovani Tufaro has 25 years of cooking experience in Italy.  Besides serving the popular Italian favorites such as spaghetti, ravioli and lasagna,  the owner, Lucio, takes special pride in the variety of authentic risotto dishes offered on the menu.  Lucio’s also offers a nice wine list.  The restaurant has live entertainment on most weekends.  The restaurant won the coveted award “Best Italian Restaurant” in 2009 from the online Las Vegas travel promoter Best of Las Vegas.  The romantic ambience, food, service and wine will give patrons a memorable night on the town without the inconvenience and high prices associated with trying to dine on the Strip.     Caffe’ Dolce, located at 5875 South Rainbow Boulevard, has ambience and traditional Italian fare at reasonable prices.  They offer a wide selection of Italian dishes, and a nice selection of pizzas.  Owner-manager Giuseppe takes special pride in the authentic Italian style preparation of all the restaurant’s dishes.  Caffe’ Dolce has a cozy indoor dining room and a lovely outdoor patio area equipped with heating lamps for those cool winter Las Vegas evenings.  Caffe’ Dolce places heavy emphasis on the enjoyment of wine with a meal, and offers a nice wine list that complements the restaurant’s food menu.  Caffe’ Dolce offers members of Vegas Wine News a great deal:  a one time complementary bottle of wine with any $60.00 food bill while dining in the restaurant.
